Top 10 Things to Do with Kids This Weekend: June 25 - 27, 2010

It doesn't look like we'll be getting a break from the heat in the next few days. So for this weekend's top 10 fun things to do with kids, I've included a few indoor activities so you and your family can stay cool. If you go to some of the street festivals that are going on this weekend, remember to pack your hat and sunblock!

FREE: Friday Night Live! Herndon Rocks - Herndon, VA
Friday, June 24: 6:30 pm

Enjoy live performance by Kristen and The Noise this Friday night in Historic Downtown Herndon, Virginia. Don't forget your blanket or lawn chairs, but leave your pet at home. Sit Down, Stand Up! at National Museum of American History
Learn the story of four college students in Greensboro, North Carolina, known as the Greensboro Four, who sat down for lunch and stood up for their rights 50 years ago. Take part in a sit-in training session and learn songs that the students sang. Recommended for kids ages 6 and up.

African American Pioneers in Aviation at the National Mall
Meet special guests, including the first all-female, all-African American commercial flight crew, the East Coast Chapter of the Tuskegee Airmen and Dr. Mae Jemison, retired NASA astronaut, the first African American Woman in space. Check out hands-on activities, including designing a Tuskegee Airmen Squadron Badge. Special performances about Bessie Coleman are scheduled for 11:30 am, 1 pm and 2 pm. Storytime of 'Nobody Owns the Sky: The Story of Brave Bessie Coleman,' is scheduled for 11 am and 1:30 pm.
